enLIGHTEN® Picosecond Laser

enLIGHTEN™ & Discovery Pico (532nm & 1064nm) uses picosecond laser technology to break down pigments into tiny fractions for the body to remove effectively. As the reaction time between laser energy and biological tissues is short, the risk of side effects (e.g. pigmentation changes) caused by thermal injury to the surrounding tissues is reduced. enLIGHTEN™ is FDA cleared.

Traditional Nd:YAG lasers have a pulse duration in the nanosecond (nsec) range, which is 1000 times longer than the newly introduced picosecond Nd:YAG laser, which has a pulse duration in the picosecond (psec) range. Scientist have confirmed that decreasing pulse duration increase the efficiency for converting laser energy into the mechanical stress needed to fracture particles into smaller fragments. Therefore, picosecond laser is much more effective than traditional lasers in treating certain kinds of skin conditions such as breaking down melanin pigments into smaller fragments. In addition, lasers with shorter pulse duration would also mean less energy loss in the form of heat, resulting in less photo-thermal damaging effect on the surrounding tissues. This means the side effects of picosecond laser treatment is less than tradition lasers treatment.
